What this app does

An organiser uploads photographs from an event. You scan a code, take one selfie, and are shown the photographs you appear in.

Your selfie is never stored

It is held in memory, used to search, and discarded with the response. It is never written to disk, never added to the face index, and never becomes part of anybody's album.

That is a property of how the system is built rather than a promise about how it is operated: a photograph you submit has no path into storage anywhere in this product.

What is stored, and by whom

The event photographs belong to the organiser. They upload them, they own them, and they decide when they are deleted.

To make them searchable, the faces in them are converted into mathematical representations and held in a face index at Amazon Web Services in Frankfurt. That includes your face, if you appear in a photograph somebody took at the event.

Access to an event is by code. Codes expire, and an organiser can withdraw one at any time.

Deletion

Nothing is deleted automatically. When an organiser deletes a photograph or an event, three things are removed together: the image, the database records, and the face data derived from it.

If you want photographs of you removed, ask the organiser of that event. They hold the data; it is their album.

What this app does not do

What we do not protect against

The app does not check that the selfie is of the person holding the phone. Somebody with a photograph of your face could use it to retrieve the photographs you appear in, at an event they have a code for.

This was considered and deliberately not addressed. It is written here because a privacy policy that left it out would be describing a product that does not exist.

Where the data is

Amazon Web Services, Frankfurt (eu-central-1). Photographs are stored encrypted and are served only through links that expire.
